Andrea Piccinin

Painting, for me, is a journey of exploration through colours and endless possibilities. It's a continuous series of decisions, a dance of "what," "where," and "how," until it resonates just right. My inspiration is the ever-changing tapestry of nature, with its myriad hues, patterns, shadows, living beings, and expansive vistas that grace us daily.

I started my artistic journey by studying Fine Art at the University of Toronto, focusing on printmaking and painting. My horizons expanded during a few transformative summers in Italy, where Siena and Florence became my classrooms and were brimming with inspiration.

Teaching art for many years was a source of immense gratification. Watching my students' grow and the art they produced was incredibly rewarding. Although I took a hiatus for a period, I've returned to painting with renewed energy.

My passion revolves around the interplay of colour and texture, and in recent years, I've delved deeply into the realms of abstract and intuitive painting. It's been a process of rediscovering the essence of paint—how it communicates energy and emotion, all while remaining open to interpretation and unique to each observer. It's an invitation to pause, breathe, and feel; a 2D meditation of sorts.

My muse is twofold: the wonders of the natural world and the vibrant cityscapes that I capture during leisurely walks. I find beauty in the juxtaposition of diverse elements, tones, and values, weaving them into my composition.

In essence, my art is an exploration of the ever-shifting symphony of colors and textures that life offers. It's an invitation for viewers to pause, reflect, and find their own unique connection within each piece.
